audience と spectator はどちらも「観客」と訳されますが、人が何をどのように受け取っているかで使い分けます。

audience：話・演技・番組などの受け手となる聴衆・観衆・視聴者

spectator：スポーツや出来事をその場で見る観客・見物人

映画・舞台・コンサート・講演・テレビ番組などの受け手は audience。試合、レース、パレードなどを現場で見る人は spectator が合います。
